Specification Quality Checklist: One meaning for an unclassified mission artifact
Purpose: Validate specification completeness and quality before proceeding to planning Created: 2026-10-16 Mission: spec.md
Content Quality
- ✅ No implementation details (languages, frameworks, APIs) — the spec names existing internal seams (classifier, projection) as the subject of the fix, which is inherent to an infrastructure-reliability mission; no new tech stack is prescribed
- ✅ Focused on user value and business needs (operator does not hit a false consolidate refuse)
- ✅ Written for non-technical stakeholders (Context + User Stories lead with the operator pain)
- ✅ All mandatory sections completed
Requirement Completeness
- ✅ No [NEEDS CLARIFICATION] markers remain
- ✅ Requirements are testable and unambiguous
- ✅ Requirement types are separated (Functional / Non-Functional / Constraints)
- ✅ IDs are unique across FR-###, NFR-###, C-### and SC-### entries, and match the requirement-ID grammar
- ✅ All requirement rows include a non-empty Status value (Open)
- ✅ Non-functional requirements include measurable thresholds (complexity ≤15; 0 residual re-derivations; byte-identical existing classification; selection assertion green)
- ✅ Every FR row and success criterion carries a delivery label and no-op mark
- ✅ Success criteria are measurable
- ✅ Success criteria are technology-agnostic (user/merge outcomes, not internals)
- ✅ All acceptance scenarios are defined
- ✅ Edge cases are identified
- ✅ Scope is clearly bounded (#5847 and four excluded paths explicitly out)
- ✅ Dependencies and assumptions identified
Mission Readiness
- ✅ All functional requirements have clear acceptance criteria
- ✅ User scenarios cover primary flows
- ✅ Mission meets measurable outcomes defined in Success Criteria
- ✅ No implementation details leak into specification beyond naming the seams under repair
Notes
- Items marked incomplete require spec updates before
/spec-kitty.plan— none outstanding. - Validation pass 1: all items pass.
