Specification Quality Checklist: Consolidate git merge-base/diff idiom
Purpose: Validate specification completeness and quality before proceeding to planning Created: 2026-07-09 Feature: spec.md
Content Quality
- ✅ No implementation details (languages, frameworks, APIs) — note: this is an internal refactor mission, so specific module/function names are the subject matter, not leaked implementation of a user feature
- ✅ Focused on user value and business needs (contributor-facing: one canonical seam, no drift)
- ✅ Written for non-technical stakeholders (purpose TL;DR is stakeholder-legible)
- ✅ All mandatory sections completed
Requirement Completeness
- ✅ No [NEEDS CLARIFICATION] markers remain
- ✅ Requirements are testable and unambiguous
- ✅ Requirement types are separated (Functional / Non-Functional / Constraints)
- ✅ IDs are unique across FR-###, NFR-###, and C-### entries
- ✅ All requirement rows include a non-empty Status value
- ✅ Non-functional requirements include measurable thresholds
- ✅ Success criteria are measurable
- ✅ Success criteria are technology-agnostic — scoped as codebase-observable measures (grep, suite-green), appropriate for a refactor mission
- ✅ All acceptance scenarios are defined (5 scenarios, one per site + helper)
- ✅ Edge cases are identified (no merge-base, pathspec, branch-vs-HEAD diff target, non-ASCII, subprocess patching)
- ✅ Scope is clearly bounded (4 sites + helper + secondary tidy; explicit Out of Scope)
- ✅ Dependencies and assumptions identified
Feature Readiness
- ✅ All functional requirements have clear acceptance criteria
- ✅ User scenarios cover primary flows
- ✅ Feature meets measurable outcomes defined in Success Criteria
- ✅ No implementation details leak into specification beyond the named consolidation targets
Notes
- Behaviour-preserving refactor; the load-bearing invariant is NFR-001 (zero expected-value assertion edits).
- FR-007 is explicitly secondary and may be deferred to a follow-up WP without blocking FR-001–FR-006.
- All items pass — ready for
