Specification Quality Checklist: Ownership-Boundary Preservation for Mutating Flows

Purpose: Validate specification completeness and quality before proceeding to planning Created: 2026-09-21 Feature: spec.md

Content Quality

  • ✅ No implementation details (languages, frameworks, APIs) — module/file names appear only in the Overview/Traceability grounding tables and Constraints (deliberate maintainer-mission grounding), not in requirement behaviour statements
  • ✅ Focused on user value and business needs (no silent loss of user-authored content)
  • ✅ Written for stakeholders (the affected Spec Kitty user + maintainers)
  • ✅ All mandatory sections completed

Requirement Completeness

  • ✅ No [NEEDS CLARIFICATION] markers remain
  • ✅ Requirements are testable and unambiguous
  • ✅ Requirement types are separated (Functional / Non-Functional / Constraints)
  • ✅ IDs are unique across FR-###, NFR-###, and C-### entries
  • ✅ All requirement rows include a non-empty Status value
  • ✅ Non-functional requirements include measurable thresholds (100% preservation; gate self-mutation both directions; layer gate green)
  • ✅ Success criteria are measurable
  • ✅ Success criteria are technology-agnostic (framed as user-observable outcomes)
  • ✅ All acceptance scenarios are defined
  • ✅ Edge cases are identified
  • ✅ Scope is clearly bounded (three issues in; #4858/#2482/#3788/#4027/#4763 out)
  • ✅ Dependencies and assumptions identified (Traceability section)

Feature Readiness

  • ✅ All functional requirements have clear acceptance criteria
  • ✅ User scenarios cover primary flows (one per issue)
  • ✅ Feature meets measurable outcomes defined in Success Criteria
  • ✅ No implementation details leak into specification behaviour statements

Notes

Overview/Traceability tables name concrete sites for grounding. Requirement behaviour statements remain outcome-oriented; the HOW is deferred to /spec-kitty.plan.

  • This is a maintainer-facing bug-fix mission against the Spec Kitty codebase itself, so the
  • All items pass on iteration 1.
